Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa ranks first in its popularity for amazingly slant but long history since 1173.
Newcomer of Abu Dhabi, however, has broken the record of Leaning Tower of Pisa, registered as World’s Furthest Leaning Manmade Tower in Guinness World Records, the CNN reported.
The Capital Gate Tower, which stands at 160 meters, or 35 stories in Abu Dhabi leans at 18 degrees, nearly five times the angle of Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Unlike the Tower of Pisa got slant with time, the building developed by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company was designed at angle.
The exterior of the tower was completed in January and it is expected to open this year.
"Capital Gate is a landmark development for Abu Dhabi and with this recognition the tower takes its place among the world's great buildings," said Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, the chairman of ADNEC.
'It is a signature building which speaks of the foresight of the emirate.’

피사의 탑보다 다섯 배 기울어진 빌딩
기울어진 탑으로 유명한 이탈리아 피사의 탑은 무너질 것 같은 아슬아슬한 모형에도 불구하고 오랜 역사를 지내온 것으로 많은 관광객들의 사랑을 받아왔다.
하지만 아랍에미리트의 수도 아부다비에 위치한 빌딩이 최근 세계에서 가장 기울어진 탑으로 기네스북에 등재되면서 이 건물의 기이한 조형이 많은 사람들의 관심을 끌고 있다고 CNN이 보도하였다.
35층 높이, 160미터에 달하는 캐피털 게이트 타워는 경사도가 18도로 피사의 탑보다 약 5배 정도 더 기울어 있다.
피사의 탑은 애초에 수직으로 건축되었으나 시간이 지남에 따라 기울어진데 반해, 이 건물은 처음부터 경사가 의도되어 만들어졌다고 한다.
아부다비 국립전시회사에 의해 건축되고 있는 이 건물은 외부건축을 1월에 끝냈고, 올해 안에 완공될 것으로 보인다.
‘캐피털 게이트는 아부다비의 기념비적인 건축물이며 세계적으로 주목받는 빌딩 중 하나이다’라고 아부다비 국립전시회사 사장 셰이크 술탄 빈 타눈 알 나얀은 말했다.
덧붙여 그는 ‘이 건물은 아랍 에미리트의 미래를 보여주는 것과 같다’라고 했다.
