Just days after she took part in a promotional event co-hosted by the Seoul division of the Community Chest of Korea and the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation, Hyeun Young has made a donation herself.

The entertainer who became a mother just three months ago made the call on Thursday and donated 20 million won ($18,300) in her family’s name.

By doing so, she became one of the first benefactors of the project to build a care center for young cancer patients.

“After becoming the face of the movement, her husband suggested that they make a contribution,” Hyeun’s representative said.

“The couple hopes that through their donation, the public will become more aware of the organization.”

On Wednesday, Hyeun attended the press event held in Jung District, central Seoul, after being picked as the charity’s new honorary ambassador.

“I love children, so it’s so great to think that I can help out,” she said.

방송인 현영이 소아암 환자를 돕기 위해 2000만 원을 기부한다.

2일 현영 소속사 ㈜KOEN에 따르면 최근 소아암 전문지원센터 건립 홍보대사로 위촉된 현영은 자신과 남편의 이름으로 2000만원을 기부하며 선행부부로 등극했다.

현영은 지난달 31일 서울사회복지공동모금회와 한국백혈병어린이재단이 주최하는 소아암 전문지원센터 건립을 위한 공동캠페인 협약식에 홍보대사로 참석, 남편과 함께 2000만원을 후원하고 싶다는 뜻을 밝혔다.

현영은 기부 의사를 밝힌 다음날인 지난 1일 모금회로 직접 전화를 걸어 후원에 따른 절차를 거쳤으며, 협약식 당일 나눔 교육에 참여했던 가명유치원 아이들과 함께 캠페인의 첫 후원자가 됐다.

현영은 "홍보대사가 됐다는 소리를 듣고 남편이 먼저 제안했다. 저 역시 생각이 없었던 게 아니었기에 즐거운 마음으로 동참하게 됐다"라며 "평소에도 사람을 몰고 다닌다는 소리를 많이 들었다. 이번 일을 계기로 소아암에 대한 사람들의 관심이 늘어나길 바란다"는 바람을 전했다.

현재 차기작을 검토하며 방송 복귀에 박차를 가하고 있는 현영은 당분간 본 캠페인의 후원 활동과 자원봉사 활동에 전념할 예정이다.

한편 현영은 사후 장기기증 서약을 통해 사후 각막기증과 뇌사 시 장기기증의 뜻을 밝히는 등 지속적인 선행을 이어오고 있다.
