Scientists have now gone a step further to prove this assertion. They conducted tests on the romantic relationships among prairie voles. Different pairs of the mouse-like rodents were tested for levels of dopamine – a neuro-transmitter that plays a role in our seeking pleasure and a craving for addictive things. It can provide an intense feeling of reward. The researchers found that the voles released large amounts of dopamine when they were physically with their "established partner". Researcher Dr Zoe Donaldson said parts of the voles' brains lit up "like a glow stick" when they were reunited with their mates, and dimmed when with unknown voles. The researchers said their studies help to explain much about the complexities of human relationships. They say dopamine in our brains plays a key part when falling in love, and in the grief experienced when breaking up with a partner. Dr Donaldson said: "As humans, our entire social world is basically defined by different degrees of selective desire to interact with different people, whether it's your romantic partner or your close friends." She added: "This research suggests that certain people leave a unique chemical imprint on our brain that drives us to maintain these bonds over time." Scientists believe they have unlocked the conundrum of the age-old question of whether the chicken or the egg came first. This problem has baffled great minds for centuries. However, researchers from the University of Geneva believe they have cracked this philosophical mystery. They suggest the egg came first. The scientists studied a tiny marine organism called Chromosphaera perkinsii. This single-celled species dates back over a billion years. The researchers found it can form multicellular structures which are similar to animal embryos. This means there was no need for a prehistoric chicken to lay an egg. Researcher Marine Olivetta told "Nature Journal" that Chromosphaera perkinskii was first discovered in 2017 off the coast of Hawaii. She said it has offered many insights into ancient life forms. She said: "It's fascinating that a species discovered so recently allows us to go back in time a billion years." The researcher suggested that the genetics behind egg fertilization and embryonic development were present before animal life existed. This means nature could have created eggs long before evolution "invented chickens". In addition, they might be less likely to receive replies. Researchers from Stanford University in the USA and the University of Toronto in Canada analyzed 5,000 text messages to gauge the impact of abbreviations. Test participants had to rate their perceived sincerity of messages with and without abbreviations. They also evaluated their likelihood of responding. The researchers said: "Abbreviations make senders seem less sincere and recipients less likely to write back." They added: "Abbreviations signal a lower level of effort from the sender." Abbreviations in text messages and social media comments have evolved into a distinct genre of writing. The first text message was sent in 1992. Since then, a system of abbreviated text has developed that is largely understood and widely used. Many abbreviations are now in dictionaries. Truncated terms like "fyi," "cul8r," and "imho" are commonplace in text messages. Of course, these mean "for your information," "see you later," and "in my humble opinion". - 交通事故の捜査などを担当する千葉県警の２８歳の警察官が、２５日未明、酒を飲んでバイクを運転したとして酒気帯び運転の疑いで逮捕されました。 逮捕されたのは松戸警察署の交通課に所属する巡査長、佐々木駿容疑者（２８）です。 警察によりますと２５日午前１時２０分ごろ、我孫子市湖北台の住宅街の道路で酒を飲んでバイクを運転したとして酒気帯び運転の疑いが持たれています。 巡査長が運転するバイクが近くの住宅にとめてあった車に衝突する事故があり、通報を受けて駆けつけた警察官が調べたところ呼気から基準値を超えるアルコールが検出されたということで、その場で逮捕されました。 警察によりますと当時は帰宅途中とみられ、調べに対し酒を飲んでいたとした上で「あまり酔った感覚はなく、まっすぐ家に帰れると思った」などと供述しているということです。 巡査長はふだん交通事故の捜査などを担当しているということです。 松戸警察署の福岡文利署長は「署員が逮捕されたことは誠に遺憾だ。指導・教養を徹底して参ります」とコメントしています。

- 埼玉県の大学生がネットにひそむ犯罪の危険性を伝える動画をつくり、春から新生活を始めた同世代の若者たちに注意を呼びかけています。 動画は東京国際大学の川越市のキャンパスで学ぶ学生たちが大学の校舎を使って撮影しました。 動画には学生たちが出演し、他人のＩＤやパスワードでＳＮＳを勝手に見たりネットで買い物をすることなどは「不正アクセス」に当たり、警察に逮捕されることもあると警告しています。 動画は警察庁のコンテストで最優秀賞を受賞し、今月２１日、埼玉県警から感謝状が送られました。 警察によりますと、去年１年間の全国のサイバー犯罪の検挙数は１万５１０８件と過去最多で、その半数が１０代から２０代の若者によるものだったということです。 動画を作成した４年生の男子学生は「日常生活の中に犯罪の危険があることを伝える内容にした。何が犯罪にあたるのかわからない人もいる若い世代に見てもらいたい」と話していました。 埼玉県警察本部サイバー対策課の荒船雅春課長は「新生活が始まる時期は相談する人がいない中で誘惑も多い。闇バイトの誘いなどにも気をつけてほしい」と話していました。 動画はＹｏｕＴｕｂｅで公開されています。
