The simulator has existed since 2007, but has only been on the desktop version of Google Earth. People had to download the program and install it on their desktop. The new version will be browser-based. Anyone can now access the flight simulator on a web browser, without having to download or install anything. On its website, Google said: "The flight simulator is designed for casual exploration rather than high-fidelity aerodynamic training." You will be able to fly all over the world using Google's map technology. Google said users may experience issues "when flying near ground level in regions below sea level". To use the flight simulator, you will have to open the Google Earth website and click on the "Explore Earth" button in the top right corner. This will take you to a page showing a picture of Earth set against the black of space. You can then choose where in the world you want to fly to, from, or around by typing your desired location in the search bar. To start flying, you need to click on "Tools" in the menu bar and then select "Flight simulator" from the ｄrop-down menu. The controls are shown on Google's developer website. A new study from Finland says many of these people might be wasting their time and money. The surgeons who conducted the study said some knee surgery can make knee problems worse rather than better. The surgeons spent 10 years studying the results of knee operations. They found that surgery on tears in the knee cartilage rarely worked. The doctors said many of the operations were unnecessary. They added that some of the operations they looked at accelerated the rate of cartilage damage. One doctor said: "What has been shown dramatically is that patients who have this procedure have more pain." In happier knee-related news, doctors from the University of Colorado have discovered a new method to treat chronic knee pain. Dr Leigh Casadaban has performed simple operations on people's knees. Her method involves reducing the flow of blood to pain-causing areas in the knee. Less blood in those areas reduces swelling and pain. Dr Casadaban says her method is more effective than painkilling medicine and physical therapy. She also believes it means people can avoid knee surgery, even total knee replacements. She said her method could "provide years of relief" by reducing pain inside the knee joint. - ６月の東京２３区の賃貸マンションの平均家賃は単身者向けで１１万４０００円あまりとなり、２５か月連続で過去最高を更新しました。 物価高を背景に、引っ越しがピークとなる時期を過ぎても家賃を引き上げる動きが続いています。 不動産情報サイトを運営する「アットホーム」は、登録されている賃貸物件のデータをもとに、全国１３地区の家賃を毎月集計しています。 それによりますと、東京２３区の６月の平均家賃は、３０平方メートル以下の単身者向けで１１万４２４２円と、去年の同じ月よりも１２.４％上昇して２５か月連続で過去最高を更新しました。 ほかの主要な都市でも家賃の上昇は続いていて、同じ単身者向けでは ▽福岡市が６万６１４９円と１５.９％上がったほか ▽大阪市が７万２７９６円 ▽名古屋市が６万５００４円と、それぞれ７.３％上昇しました。 また ▽札幌市は４万３９７３円となり、４.７％の上昇となりました。 調査した会社によりますと、例年春の引っ越しがピークとなる時期を過ぎた６月は家賃を引き下げる動きが見られていたということですが、物価高を背景に家主が賃料を引き上げる動きが続いているということです。

- 本州では限られた場所でしか見ることができない、淡い紅色の花をつけるホザキシモツケが栃木県日光市の湿原で咲きそろい、訪れる人を楽しませています。 ホザキシモツケは高さ１メートル余りに育つバラ科の植物で、枝先に淡い紅色の小さな花が穂のように集まって咲くのが特徴です。 本州では限られた場所でしか見ることができず、標高およそ１４００メートルの奥日光にある湿原、戦場ヶ原や小田代原には群生地があります。 このうち小田代原では７月上旬からホザキシモツケが咲き始め、湿原をピンク色に彩っています。 遊歩道から見渡す角度によっては風になびいた花々が淡く色づいた霧のように見えることもあり、訪れた人たちは立ち止まって写真を撮ったり眺めたりしていました。 奥日光の自然を紹介している日光自然博物館によりますと、ホザキシモツケはいまが見頃で、８月上旬まで楽しめそうだということです。
